My Recent Experiences

This is my recent experiences and thought should know about it and do remember Peace Officers cannot pull you off the road and give you a fine.

I only learnt this after the deed.

Department of Health

On 10 June 2009 at 16:59 while waiting at the Phoenix taxi rank for the taxi, I noticed a Department of Health vehicle license plate NDM 8031 parked in the receiving and dispatching zone of Liberty Liquors. This is not a public parking area and only customers purchasing large quantities of alcohol are permitted to park in this area for convenience.

Peace Officer

On Friday 19 June 2009 at 15:10 my friend and I were travelling along Commercial Rd and as we approached the Workshop, a Peace Enforcement Officer instructed us to move to side of the road as my friend was talking on his cellular phone while driving. We both were not wearing our seat belts at the time. The officer approached us and made the driver aware that it is a R1 700-00 fine for talking on your cell-phone while driving and he made no mention of the seat-belts. At this point my friend did acknowledge that he was at fault for talking on his cell-phone while driving and asked for the officer’s leniency.

The officer then stated once again that the fine is R1 700-00 and said, ‘what do you have to offer, as I he could give him a ticket for R1 700-00 or what would he suggest.’ My friend stated the he only had R100-00 and the officer then recommended he fold it small, put it under his license and hand the license to him. He then pretended to be checking the vehicle’s details and then ushered us to proceed.

There was no name badge visible, the only identification visible was his uniform and there were other officers on the opposite side of the road.
